Tribute to the Waldenbooks stores leaving Houston

As all but one Waldenbooks location in the Houston area shut down; I took a few pictures of my visits to these stores before they are gone. Waldenbooks was a much more interesting bookstore in the past before the mammoth Barnes and Noble and Borders books took over the retail book landscape. As a kid I visited the store at Deerbrook and Greenspoint Malls on every visit to those malls back in the 80's and 90's. Willowbrook Mall has the only Waldenbooks location that is not going out of business in the Houston area at this time, but it is only a matter of time before that store is gone too.

Houston Center

San Jacinto Mall; sorry for the blurriness

  1. As of August 2008, the one at Mall of the Mainland was still open, but I'd be surprised if it hasn't shut down too (considering MotM's struggles and Ike)

  2. Thanks Pseudo3D. I think that location is still open; I just forgot that it existed. I was last at the mall in the summer and I am pretty much sure it was open. If anyone has a picture of this location that I can add to the page; I would appreciate the help.

  3. Nice pics, and you did a lot better than me in getting Waldenbooks pics before they closed. (I unfortunately only got 1 local location, which closed 8 months before Borders started their recent round of closings in September/October) Here's a pic of an old-school facade Waldenbooks that just closed in Elkhart, IN's Concord Mall, enjoy y'all:
