Southpark Mall / Summer Grove Shreveport La update

A few things have changed since my last visit. Some of the store fronts have been covered up as well as the former mall entrance to Burlington. More store fronts have been converted to other uses and spaces have been combined to create large areas for church and community uses. I visited again on a weekday afternoon and there was not much going on besides the occasional mall walkers. The property is still doing well on Wednesdays, weekends, and when church and community events are held here.
The windows to Burlington have been covered up.
Here is the entrance to the former JCPenney which is now the Worship Center.

Burlington is still going strong.

  1. Thanks for the pictures. I certainly appreciate the pictures of the Montgomery Ward. I did not know about your older pictures of this Montgomery Ward that you posted before, but I enjoyed going back and looking at those too. Pleasant Family Shopping has an image of the exterior of this store back when the store was still open on this post in case you are interested.

    1. Thanks for the comment. One of my commentors informed me about this photo previously. The store really does not look much different from back then. I guess the quality of the old photo makes the store look older than it was. From time to time the store is reopened as a temporary thrift store called reruns are fun for a few days. This store is one of the best conditioned mostly abandoned former Montgomery Ward stores still left.

  2. When did the Dillard's close? I was driving by the property and I just had to look up why the hell there was a Burlington attached to a church.

    1. Dillard's closed in 2001 about the time the retail in the area began failing. I am not sure if the mall was ever completely closed since the church took the majority of the property over as the mall was failing. I am surprised that Burlington is still there in 2022. The company has been shuttering their older locations especially in dead malls in favor of new stores.
