hhgregg's short New Orleans area expansion

hhgregg had a short lived stay in Louisiana. The stores opened in the Fall of 2012 and closed in the Spring of 2017 as part of the first round of bankruptcy closings. The rapid expansion of hhgregg after the Circuit City bankruptcy ultimately helped hhgregg into their own bankruptcy. hhgregg was liquidated shortly after the closing sales began on the first round of mass store closings.

  1. Thanks for the photos. This store does look like an old Circuit City (Circuit City's last store style at least), but I guess a lot of hhgregg's looked like Circuit City stores. Unfortunately, hhgregg was ultimately about as successful as Circuit City was in the electronics retailing game.

Speaking of Circuit City, the new Circuit City chain is planning on launching about a year from now. The plan is to start with a website, then kiosks/store-within-a-stores, and then eventually retail stores. I'm not sure where they are planning on putting the kiosks and stores within a store. I wonder if Sears would be interested in such a thing, but Circuit City might want to link up with a more stable retailer. Anyway, we'll have to see how things go for them. I'm not optimistic, but we'll see.

    1. The Westbank shopping center also had a Wilsons/Service Merchandise that lasted for many years. The big box buildings where the hhgregg are I believe are new.

  2. The Mall of Louisiana store replaced a Borders that had previously failed with the chain. Borders had built in the new section, the 'lifestyle center' of the mall, so it had an outside entrance to the parking lot. When HHG took it over, they closed off the mallway entrance (which was also outside) so you couldn't pass through from the parking lot. Borders got a lot of business with that.

    1. Thanks for the information Scott. I have only been to the mall once since that lifestyle section was built.
