Inglewood Mall update 2014 Morgan City La

Here is another visit to the Inglewood Mall in Morgan City Louisiana. A Walmart Neighborhood market is scheduled to be built next to the mall in the near future, possibly helping to bring new businesses to the mall. The mall had gained at least two new stores since my last visit, a cell phone store and a clothing/beauty salon store next to Tampico. This is one of the few completely retro malls from the 1970's still left intact in south Texas and Louisiana. This mall was similar in size and shape to the demolished Kenilworth Mall in Eastern New Orleans.

The interior of the former K and B was stripped out with a sign advertising the space for lease. 

There was better lighting on this visit so you can see much better how cool this retro mall still is.

This is a cell phone repair store I-refurbish, that was new in the middle of the mall.

Kenilworth Mall 2012 updated March 28, 2015

Here is another exclusive mall to the blog. Kenilworth Mall was a shopping center/ mall that was located on Morrison Rd near the I-10 interchange. Kenilworth Mall opened in the then fast growing New Orleans East area just four years before the massive Lake Forest Plaza Mall opened two exits away on Read Blvd and I-10. The mall was very similar in size and design to the Inglewood Mall in Morgan City Louisiana.

Today this is all that remains of the former mall; the parking lot and foundation.

This building is not part of the mall but it is located just outside of the mall complex.

Kenilworth Mall had the grand opening on July 30, 1970 but some stores opened early (designated next to store list below). The mall had an area inside called the promenade with small shops.

The mall suffered for years and did not have too many businesses left in 1999; my only visit to this center. K and B was still here after Rite Aid took over and a few small spaces were in business. The mall was flooded during Hurricane Katrina and sat for a few years until the site was demolished. The Burger King unit that was next to the mall has also been demolished. As you will see in my next New Orleans East articles, nearly all of the I-10 East retail has been wiped out because of Hurricane damage. Wal-Mart, Sams Club, Sears Appliances, The Grand Cinema, Dillard's, Sav A Center, Big Lots, Toys R Us, and several small shops are all gone.

Rivercenter Mall update 2013 San Antonio Texas

This post was lost for a while in the draft section of my blog. Things may have changed from my visit in 2013, but I did my best to check the internet for any updates on the mall.

The Rivercenter Mall has one of the strangest configurations of a mall that I have visited. Most of the mall is doing well, but the design of the mall created several areas where customer traffic is light and stores left. There are four levels of the mall; River, Street, Fashion, and Entertainment. The main section of the mall has two floors leading from the former Joske's/Dillard's to Macy's. The mall has two wings that are connected to the main section of the mall which are three floors. The first floor has the food court and outdoor sections which line the riverwalk extension. The second and third floor are enclosed, and the third floor has a crossover to prevent dead ends in the mall. The second floor also has street level exits. See the directory below for a better look at the configuration of the mall. The mall is currently anchored by Macy's and an Imax Cinema on level 4 and also contains two large parking garages.

Here you can see the massive 550,000 square foot, five story Joske's store that was built around the historic St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Joske's was here for many years before the mall was built and was expanded several times over the years. Dillard's took over the store after they purchased the Joske's chain in 1987 and closed the top 3 floors. The store closed in the 2008 and redevelopment plans have been stalled.

Now for the inside of the mall. Lots of retro features from 1988 are still in the mall. The mall has had at least two renovations since the opening.
