Vintage Houston Sears #2
This is the vintage Sears location at 4000 North Shepherd Drive; just north of Interstate 610 in Houston. The sign is vintage 1950's- 1960's but I am not sure of the exact age of this store. This store is just a regular Sears store on the inside with not many vintage features still left intact. I did not visit the inside of the store on this visit to take pictures, sorry. This location has a separate auto center just like the other vintage store, and there is a small old school Sears keyshop located in the back of the parking lot that is still operational. This is the location that I talked about in my previous post that would be a good option to refill the empty Macy's anchor at the nearby Northwest Mall.
Better to redevelop the area around the North Shepherd Sears with new stores moved over from Northwest Mall. It's a great location with a lot of charm and character.
ReplyDeleteNorthwest Mall, like Sharpstown; has outlived it's useful lifespan and it's time to either completely tear it down or remove large chunks of it and try a concept that will work. Unfortunately, large indoor malls are difficult to rehabilitate because they are one big structure.
I know a lot of mall afficionados cringe when they see some of the old classics re-done into open air "lifestyle centers". But if that's what it takes to keep them successful retail centers, then I'm all for it. The "keep it a mall at all costs" philosophy is just plain silly.
