West Oaks Mall New Developments 2012 (Updated)

Updated Oct 2012; more new articles on the way starting next weekend.

West Oaks Mall is filling up with new stores, and the mall is doing much better than just a year ago.
The mall also has new signage with a modern steel metal look; see updated photos below.

This is the entrance to the new Plaza area which features a new Edwards 14 cinema. A Toby Keith "I love this bar and grill" will open soon in the Plaza area and will feature live music with a bar and grill. Read more about the new concept here.
This entrance has now been opened since the construction was completed.
The mall directory has been changed to show the new development where Mervyn's was.
This was the old Champs location that relocated in the middle section of the mall. Many of the stores that were still left in this section of the mall moved to help fill empty spaces. The mall lost many stores when the previous owner of the mall went bankrupt and the mall went into foreclosure. The new owners of the mall are bringing back this mall and have invested millions in the redevelopment of the entire property.
Palais Royal reopened in their former location that closed several years ago. Linen's and Things and then a furniture store occupied this space before Palais Royal came back.
Here is the rendering of the development that is now complete.
A look at the new development from the Westheimer entrance.
The Mervyn's/ Steve and Barry's and west wing of the mall was demolished to make way for this outdoor/ lifestyle development. These photos were taken in the Spring before the development was finished.

This is the back of the Edwards Cinema.
As you can see this area was designed to be accessible from the back to give the mall better access than before when Steve and Barry's did not have an entrance from this side of the mall.
The former Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is now closed down as of June 25, 2012, but there is a nearby Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Katy.
As you can see from this angle the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema had some major competition next door from the new larger cinema. The Alamo would have lost a large amount of business if they kept that location open.

The Edwards cinema opened August 14. Click here to learn more about the new cinema. Here are current October photos of the new mall development named The Plaza.
The entrance to the new Edwards 14 Cinema is the centerpiece of the new development at the mall.

This is the entrance to the mall which is close to the food court. Several stores left the small section of the former Mervyn's/ Steve and Barry's corridor that was not demolished during the construction of the new developments. Maybe more restaurants will open in this section of the mall because it is close to the new cinema. The Toby Keith Bar and Grill under construction is in the center of this photo.
Oct 2012 Update more photos with the new mall signage.
Here is an example of the new logo for the mall.

Circuit City Then and now 2012 Almeda (Updated)

Updated Oct 2012; see new photos below.

January of 2009 during the going out of business sale; sorry for the poor image quality. This Circuit City opened in the mid 2000's to replace the older location less than a quarter mile away. A new Walmart opened here and many stores moved from behind Almeda Mall to the Walmart center.
As you can see in 2010 the area behind Almeda Mall was struggling. The Circuit City building in this photo was reopened as a clothing store in 2011.
As you can see the newer Circuit City location was waiting for redevelopment in Sept 2012. The surrounding shopping center area is full with the exception of this building. Several new stores have moved into the shopping center including Staples, Ross, and Anna's Linens, but they have built their locations instead of using this building.

Update Oct 2012 now under renovation. The wall has been pulled off of the far side of the building and around 30 more feet are going to be added to the building. I did not see any signs indicating what store is going in.
Circuit City Labelscar.
Here you can clearly see how much space is being added for the new store.
This is the older Circuit City location that has reopened as a Sonia clothing store.
Coming soon; new malls that have not been featured yet on this blog.

Ridgmar Mall Fort Worth Texas

Welcome to the first Louisiana and Texas Southern Malls Fort Worth Texas Post. Ridgmar Mall is the first of several new DFW mall posts coming soon.

Also take the time out to comment on this any any other article. I have been overwhelmed with spam comments lately that do not bring any added information to the blog. Stories of past mall experiences or corrections of any information is always appreciated.

Ridgmar Mall is a decent shopping mall located west of downtown Fort Worth on I-30 and Green Oaks Road. This 1976 mall is anchored by Macy's, Dillard's, Sears, JCPenney, Neiman Marcus, and Rave Motion Pictures Cinema. The mall looks to have been recently updated and the mall has many of the popular stores that are in most good malls.
Neiman Marcus seems out of place in this mall. This section of the mall looks to be newer than the rest of the mall, and has a few vacant spaces.
Each area of the mall has a name such as this one "Fashion Avenue".
The mall corridors have column designs shown here throughout the mall.

Neon is still part of the design here in the mall. With the exception of restaurants and casinos, it seems like neon lighting is disappearing from retail malls and stores.
The airplane is a cool feature in the mall.

Don't get spit on by the turtle. There is a fountain below this spitting turtle in front of JCPenney.
Next up more malls in the DFW area.
