Northgate Mall Lafayette Louisiana March 2023

Here is my 2023 update on the Northgate Mall. Following on the heels of my 2021 update, I wanted to show that the mall is still doing alright after the Covid years.

The road sign off of the Evangeline Thruway could use some refreshing as well. This is the most visible sign for the mall. Home Depot is in the left background. It would be cool to see the old scrolling message sign lit back up.

There are a few new businesses within the mall. We were here close to closing time on Saturday so several places had already packed up for the day. A new salon was at the end of this dead end corridor that once led to Montgomery Ward.

Shirt Mayne new store, I love the name. I don't know why, but my camera started acting weird. This photo and the one I took after came out blurry.

Another new store.

You just can't go wrong with the retro design of the mall.

As you can see, this part of the mall is really lively now. Even the old Foot Locker on the right is now a barber shop. You can see one of the old brand logos if you look close enough.

Sadly the old Stage store is vacant.

The old Transco is still vacant as well. Planet Fitness which shares the old Service Merchandise anchor pad with Transco only has exterior mall access.

Inside of the old Stage.

I never really paid much attention to this store, but behind the window covers is something special.

Not only are there Christmas decorations, but this was also old B-Dalton or Waldenbooks location. I got the best photos I could with the limited view through the covers. If you want to see how the Christmas decorations looked click the mall Facebook profile below.

Northgate is a mostly linear mall with this one bend to break up the path. There is an eatery that was closed on my visit, but this is as close to a food court as the mall had.

Inside of one of the former food stalls.

Here is the exterior of that food stall. Cookie Company storefront?

Inside of a nearby vacant space.

The exterior of the above space.

The old Foot Locker, now Man Cave Barber Shop. It is cool to see the old brand logos on the walls along with the black and white athletic photos.

The center court has another cluster of stores. The former Footaction was already filled up by a new store called Lone Wolf Gatherings. They have a lot of cool stones and collectables that I could see from the mall corridor. My photo of that store came out very blurry, so I didn't include it.

No Easter Bunny today!

The Real Deal takes up the former Anna's Linens space and serves as a junior anchor to the mall.

Unfortunately the exterior of the mall still needs sign work.

Ghosts of the past.

This large space could use some activity as well. Several years ago the rotten awning was torn down, but nothing has taken this space.

At least these mall entrances look nice and inviting.

The former Albertsons on the West side of the mall.

Northgate Mall Lafayette Louisiana April 2021 update

Here is a quick update to the still going Northgate Mall in Lafayette Louisiana. This is an older update to the mall. We recently did a 2023 update along with more Louisiana retail goodies. Surprisingly the mall is doing better in 2023. One of the reasons why this mall seems to continually reinvent itself is the lack of retail options in the area. Walmart closed their nearby Supercenter several years ago and the nearby shopping centers along the Acadiana Thruway are struggling.

Planet Fitness moved in and keeps the back area of the mall alive. The call center still has not been replaced as of March 2023.

As you all know by now. All Stage stores closed in 2020 with the liquidation of the company. I believe this store closed a few years earlier than the bankruptcy.

Most of the road signs have been blown out.

The former Albertsons is now a learning academy.

This road sign is still mostly intact, but some slots have fallen out.

West Mall entrance with the former Albertsons to the left of the mall entrance.

Let's go inside to see how the mall is doing.

Not too much traffic on this weekday around lunchtime.

The Transcom mall entrance. The call center has been closed for several years unfortunately.

The East court.

A cluster of businesses in the East wing of the mall.

The inside of the former Kay Bee Toys. Not too many of these still exist these days.

The front of the Kay Bee Toys and former Cookie Shop.

The Real Deal store on the right has taken over the former Anna's Linens store.

Hibbett Sports is one of the few national retailers still in the mall.

A current layout of the mall. Sadly the old mall directories have been removed.

Footaction, as you know all Footaction stores were closed in early 2022.

I really like the skylight designs throughout the mall.

The hallway leading to the public restrooms.

The hallway is inside of a former store.

More of the cool ceiling design elements in the mall.

The cutoff corridor that led to the former Montgomery Ward.

That is all for now. More to come soon.
