Quick update Greenspoint Mall Theater
Construction has moved ahead quickly for the new Greenspoint Mall theater in the shell of the former JCPenney. The mall also has a few new tenants including a Toy's R Us Express that are advertised on the mall website. I think the mall should demolish the former Sears to give a good view of the the cinema from Beltway 8 since the Sears building blocks the view of the site. Is the mall on the verge of a rebound?

I would say no. The mall has been dying a slow prolonged death since the early 1990s, redevelopment was proposed years ago and is only now starting, in that time, Sears has pulled out. That's a bad sign. Dillard's is now a sporadically open Clearance Center, and the Mervyn's has been rotting for over a decade.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if the theater didn't open into the mall, so the rest of the mall (minus Macy's) could be flattened.
