Plaza Sendero Las Torres Juarez Chihuahua Mexico update Summer 2019

Here is a quick update to a mall we previously visited.

There is a lot more to this mall available here. 👇
and here. 👇

More Soriana photos.

Hands down, this is the weirdest display I have ever seen in a store. This was at the pharmacy counter.

This afternoon was a pretty busy one at the mall.

A live band in the mall!

How about a few more Woolworth shots!

A few more photos of the exterior of the mall.

  1. Wow, that display is really something! I have heard Trojan man commercials on the radio, but I was expecting Trojan man to look a little different, lol. That's pretty funny. I don't think a major US retailer could get away with such a festive looking condom display, but maybe I'm wrong about that. There are certain images you've posted to the blog that make me laugh and this is certainly one of them. Other moments that come to mind are the Larry the Cable Guy Mac & Cheese at the Market Basket and this odd closeout merchandise at the West Oaks Mall Sears. I still can't understand why Sears was selling that, lol.

It looks like Soriana still has a pretty good selection of electronics. That's good to see. I'm sure they're dealing with the electronics shortages just like we are up here, but hopefully they're maintaining their electronics departments.

It's always nice to see a Woolworth that's not just surviving, but thriving. It's a shame we no longer have stores like this in the US.

While the mall may not have upscale tiling or anything like that, it does look like a festive place to be. It's certainly bright an airy feeling unlike a lot of American malls. I wish more US malls would have community events and things like live bands. Things like that used to bring crowds out to the malls back in the day. It seems like malls have forgotten how to be a part of the community. Malls probably have to work harder than ever to bring people out to them, but they just aren't trying hard enough it seems. I know some struggling malls, like Macroplaza Mall, do have some live events at them so at least they're trying to do something, but it would be nice to see some of the healthier malls do something similar.

    1. I just happened to notice that crazy display while in the pharmacy area of the store. That spokesman Julio was all over the store even on the TV advertisements. It has to be the funniest display I have ever seen. The electronics department seemed a tad bit less stocked than on my previous visit. I am sure TV's are selling for an even larger premium at the moment in Mexico.

The mall was super busy as you can tell. Most of the malls in Juarez were busy at any given time in the day. I am not sure how many Americans shop in Juarez, but there are a lot of Texas license plates around the city. Soriana and Woolworth are booming businesses. Too bad Woolworth has not made a comeback here in the US.

I really liked the feel of this Plaza Sendero Mall and the other one which you will see soon on the blog. Macroplaza Mall has fallen on hard times, I don't think they have live events anymore. If they did, all of the food and beverage stands are closed now. Those events certainly brought crowds.

  2. I'm guessing Julio thought his likeness would be used to sell some TVs, clothes, or something like that, but I suppose Soriana had other ideas in mind, lol.

That's interesting that a lot of Texans were shopping at this mall. I suppose the Texans who were there probably had some kind of connection to the area, but still, those people could have shopped at home. Something made them go out to shop in Mexico. I wonder if these shoppers think the same thing that we think about perhaps Mexican department stores having a nicer experience and perhaps more relevant products as well. The perception was always that Mexicans would drive up to Texas to shop, but maybe now the trend is starting to shift to the opposite being the case. Well, anyway, I'm glad that someone is appreciating these nice stores and is keeping them going.

That is a shame if Macroplaza Mall has cut out the events. Those were the rare things that the mall had going for it during the Plaza Paseo and the tail end of the Pasadena Town Square days. That mall must be in a sorry state even compared to a few years ago when it was hardly thriving.

    1. All around town there were a lot of Texas plates. It was good to see, and made me feel better about being in a different country.

I don't think Macroplaza Mall will make it much longer. I need to see how it is doing in person, but I have heard a few updates. The mall may not make it too much longer.
