Ollie's inside of former Toys R Us College Station August 2021

Lots of work going on behind the scenes at the blog. I have reached my goal of over 500 total posts with at least 75 posts backlogged. All of my previously unpublished posts are now organized and I am in the process of uploading them to the blog. The massive San Jacinto Mall, Deerbrook Mall Sears, North Shepherd Sears, and Pasadena Sears are just some of what is in store for the blog. Don't forget to submit your entry to the blog for the upcoming contest for retail goodies, I have only received one official entry to my email at southernmalls@gmail.com

Here is an awesome example of Ollie's replacing a Toys R Us location. This is part one of a two part series, with both articles going up tonight. Many of the old fixtures and store colors are still intact. This store closed along with the bankruptcy and was replaced in 2020 by Ollie's.

With the exception of the Ollie's sign, the front of the store looks the same as before.

Even the old entrance sign is still intact.

Seems like every Olli's store has this statue of Ollie.

The view from the front of the store when you walk in.

The scars of the old floor tiles are still present.

The light fixtures appear to be the same ones as before.

The shelving units may be the same ones used at Toys R Us.

Leftover design elements from Toys R Us around this emergency exit door.

The entire sales floor from the old Toys R Us is being reused for Ollie's.

A staple of Ollie's stores, the handwritten banners above the featured deals.

One view of the checkouts. These are the same ones from the Toys R Us days.

More views of the store.

More views of the checkouts.

The exit doors which are also the same from the Toys R Us days.

The exit only sign is also still intact from the Toys R Us days.

I am glad that Ollie's management did not mess with the store and left several elements from the Toys R Us days intact. As we will see soon, the Waco Ollie's location was stripped of nearly everything from the Toys R Us days.

  1. It is interesting to see how much of Toys R Us that Ollie's kept around at this store! It's really surprising to me that Ollie's kept the rainbow stripes and the TRU Entrance/Exit signs. While it's great that Ollie's kept so much TRU stuff around at this location, I must say that I prefer the interior of the Waco Ollie's over this one. The tile scar looks really sloppy compared to the tile floor at the Waco store or the Houston Ollie's which has smoother looking concrete.

I'll have some more thoughts about Ollie's in the Waco Ollie's post. It's really neat to have two posts in one day!

    1. It was really bright out the day I photographed this store so it makes it look a bit dingy inside. I wonder why they stripped the floors out here and left them intact in Waco.
