This former Mervyn's is rumored to be torn down and replaced by a Target. It has been vacant since the beginning of 2006 when Mervyn's left Louisiana. The mall needs to be as aggressive as possible to get this spot filled. The former Mervyn's is aging, and some of the sidewalks appear to be sinking around the building (which is common in the New Orleans area, but a hazard).
Macy's reopened a couple of years ago, but eliminated their third floor. I also found it odd that Macy's put a new sign up and left their old signs intact.

ReplyDeleteThe Kenner city council approved the movie theater today. It's SEALED and going to happen. Lastly the mall is in talks with another anchor store!!! go to NOLA.COM for infK
ReplyDeleteTarget is due to open at the Esplanade Mall within the next couple of months. It now appears mostly built. The movie theater, a 14-screen stadium, is due to start construction in the coming months and open around March or April of 2012. The other anchor store is waiting for Target to open and the movie theater to begin construction, then planning to begin construction itself. After the Esplanade Mall's downfall, it appears it may actually once again take over as one of the best malls in the area.
